Well Said Wednesday: The Reason ... Really The Only Reason ... To Write

I was looking over my content plan for the quarter and I felt like the 4.23 Facebook page was a little quiet.

Now, I'm not one to get overly invested in posting all day every day.

What shows up in people's feeds is largely out of our hands, and for my audience, it's not a primary gateway. But it's nice to pop in now and then with a haiku or a quote or a question.

So this week, I asked my followers this question:

Who needs to hear from you this week?

It's a great question. Because I guarantee there is *at least* one person who needs to hear from you. Probably more.

Is there a potential client you need to follow up with?

Make the call.

Is there a partnership you'd love to launch?

Draft the proposal.

Did you build your email list like the business guru told you to but don't actually do anything with that list?

Send the email.

Our people need to hear from us. We can't do our genius work if people don't know about our genius work. And they're not going to know about it if we don't tell them.

The catch-22 for many small business owners is that their genius work doesn't involve writing and editing authentic, compelling business messaging, so they put it off or try to will it away.

Yep, a blank page and a blinking cursor can be intimidating.

But it doesn't have to be debilitating.

My clients get a masterclass in this when they work with me on their WordMap or WordLaunch projects.

But if you need some right now guidance, do this:

  • Take a deep breath

  • Get clear on the one thing you need that person to know

  • Write a sh*tty first draft

That's all it takes to get started.

Once you get that sh*tty first draft down, you're well on your way to creating a better second draft and a nicely polished and usable message to that person who needs to hear from you.

It's honestly as easy as that. So again:

Who needs to hear from you this week?

And more importantly:

What are you going to do about it?

Seriously, I'm asking. Drop a comment to tell me who needs to hear from you and what you’re going to do about it.
